Introduction to Roulette
- What is Roulette?
Roulette is a casino game which earned its name from the French word ‘small wheel’. In Roulette, players can select to make bets either utilizing single or multiple numbers, on either the black or red spaces, and on even or odd numbers. The croupier will then spin the wheel in a singular motion and direction and then spins a ball in the other direction along a rounded track which runs around the wheel’s circumference. The ball will then slow down and stop at one of the numbers in the track; there are 37 numbers in European roulette and 38 in the American version.
- The History of Roulette
Roulette was first invented in France during the 18th Century by Blaise Pascal who was seeking ways to create an ongoing moving contraption. It is widely accepted that the roulette wheel was a culmination of the English wheel game Roly-Poly, E.O. and Ace of Hearts, Hoca and Biribi which are Italian board games and roulette, the existing French board game.
In America, the French double zero wheel was introduced from the state of Mississippi from New Orleans, and soon made its way to the west. During that time, certain apparatus was placed beneath the wheel to control numbers, so eventually the contraption was firmly ensconced on a table and betting rules were modified.
In the former part of the 20th century, roulette and other casino games were primarily located in Monte Carlo, utilizing the French roulette version. In the 70s, this game gained much popularity, and by late 2008, there are hundreds of casinos across the world proffering Roulette to customers. The double zero wheel can be located in America, the Caribbean and South America, while the single zero wheel is primarily everywhere else in the world.

- How to Play Roulette and Key Points:
To play roulette, the player has to buy specific roulette chips, and to avoid confusion, each player gets chips of varying colors. The chips bought are only meant to be played at specific tables, and win or lose, the chips have to be handed back or immediately cashed. To cash roulette chips, the croupier will take the original ones and replace with regular ones, where they can be cashed at the cage.
Every roulette table has both minimum and maximum bets, and no inside and outside bets are permitted to be combined to meet the minimum requirements. For example, if the bet is $10, both inside and outside must have equal amounts; $7 on the outside and $3 on the inside is prohibited.
There are many ways to place inside bets; a number can be bet straight up or straddled between numbers to choose an accumulation of numbers. Outside bets are ones made in the boxes encircling the numbers. The dealer will ensure that the wheel is mobile at all times and concentrates on the ball’s spins and jumps. The dealer will then mark the winning number when the wheel slows down. Bets are not allowed to be made until the dealer extricates the marker from the previous wins.
